The
Bowen Technique is a remedial and holistic form
of 'hands-on' therapy that can be given through
light clothing. A remarkably wide range of
complaints can be successfully resolved or
substantially diminished with Bowen and these
include: pain and dysfunction in backs /necks /
knees / hips / ankles, sports injuries, frozen
shoulder, migraines, asthma, hayfever, tennis &
golfer’s elbows, lymphoedema, stress and
anxiety, etc. Bowen treatment is very gentle
and, for the great majority of people who come
for treatment, it is very effective.
The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to make
gentle and small rolling-type moves at precise
points on the body. These little sets of moves
stimulate the muscles, soft tissue and energy in
the body. After each set of moves, the
practitioner will leave the room for about two
minutes leaving the client to rest. These short
breaks give the body a chance to respond by
making the subtle and fine adjustments needed
for healing. There is no manipulation or
adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used.
Treatment sessions are approximately one hour
long (and about 20 minutes for children). Two to
four treatments, one week apart, are often
sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even
long-standing pain and complaints.
