Companionship for
Dying
Practitioners -
Margie McCallum
Dying can be a lonely journey. Just as a midwife
accompanies us into life, a Companion for the
Dying can join with us on our path into death.
It can be difficult to share concerns about
death with family and friends. A Companion is
there to listen deeply and without judgement to
whatever we need to talk about. She can offer
assistance with practicalities, unfinished
business or loose ends that have not been
sorted. This may involve emotional concerns,
regrets or relationships that are in need of
healing.
A Companion for the Dying will bring warmth and
wisdom, patience and understanding. He will help
the dying person to honour their special
qualities and contribution to life. The
Companion’s main purpose is to enable the dying
person to pass over with dignity, serenity and
simplicity.
